ICST-P #007
Dissociating sounds so scary and Hollywood portrays the rare extreme. Yet we all dissociate, zone out, and disconnect. We have a normal nervous system response to an abnormal potentially threatening event, so how can we integrate our response to better cope and function. Understanding dissociation with a trauma-focused lens can help stabilize and prepare for deeper trauma work.Sandtray Therapy and creative expression can support grounding and whole-brain processing to bring wholeness. Participants will identify their own grounding skills and disconnective experiences, practice regulating the nervous system, and implement grounding and integration with Sandtray Therapy and Creative Expression.
OBJECTIVES
Learning Objective One *
Participants will identify grounding skills and disconnective experiences to better help the client gain awareness of when they are dissociating and how to connect them to the present moment.
Learning Objective Two *
Participants will practice regulating the nervous system to better demonstrate to their client how to regulate their own nervous system when its activated from potentially threatening experiences.
Learning Objective Three *
Participants will implement 2-3 ways to ground and integrate during a Sandtray Therapy session and in clinical work using creative expression.
